Doctor's Opinion

Understanding Crown & Bridges Beyond Tooth Restoration

Dental crowns and bridges are highly effective restorative treatments designed to rebuild damaged teeth and replace missing teeth while maintaining natural aesthetics.

Crowns act like protective caps placed over weakened or root canal treated teeth, while bridges help fill gaps created by missing teeth to restore bite balance and smile appearance.

Modern crown and bridge dentistry focuses on strength, precision fit, comfort, and long-term smile preservation.

Crown & Bridges FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about dental crowns and bridges, treatment process, durability, and maintaining a natural‑looking smile.

A dental crown is a custom‑made cap that covers a damaged or weakened tooth, while a dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth to the natural teeth or implants on either side.

Crowns are recommended for teeth that are heavily decayed, cracked, fractured, or after root canal treatment, as well as for improving the appearance of misshapen or discolored teeth.

The process usually requires 2–3 visits. During the first visit the tooth is prepared and impressions are taken; a temporary crown or bridge is placed; then the final restoration is fitted and cemented in the next visit.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain while the tooth is being prepared. Mild sensitivity or discomfort after the procedure is normal and usually settles within a few days.

Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing twice daily and flossing carefully around the bridge. Avoid biting very hard foods directly on crowned teeth and visit your dentist regularly to ensure the restoration and supporting teeth remain healthy long term.
